Recommendations? Hello everybody, There have been a lot of burglars in our neighborhood, so my wife and I are interested in buying a surveillance system. We got a pretty good price for this unit, but we are wondering if anyone has recommendations for a better kind? Thanks guys!

If your burglars DRIVE into your property, then this will work, otherwise get one of the ones that respond to people (and dogs, deer, birds, etc...). We had one of those for 2 weeks--which went off about 70 times a night. This one works good for vehicles. I have it mounted 350 feet from the house.

I have just purchased three First Alert carbon monoxide alarms. My home has a basement and bedrooms on the first and second floors. My questions stem from the installation. Should the installation location of basement unit be on the ceiling close to the stair well leading to the first floor, or should it be installed closer to the gas furnace and hot water heater? The unit on the first floor I planned on installing just out side the bedroom, or would you recommend another location? The third unit I planed on installing at the top of the landing between the two upstairs bed rooms. There is also a small bathroom on the second level between the two bed rooms, is moisture a problem for this type of unit?

When I worked Electrical in a Hardware store we were told by Nighthawk and f\First Alert and we told our customers that you want the detectors 4-6 feet off the floor never near a water heater or furnace since this can cause false alarms. The CO will rise, so one on each floor should be enough near a central stair if possible. Other wise make sure at least one is in the bedroom.
