A tec installed a ge alarm system in my home. he spliced into my existing phone jack. Coming from my alarm is a black and white wire. the wires from the wall have been barretted together into two bundles, going to the alarm. I have to change the jack where do i hook the black and white wires too?

The jack you are talking about to which the phone alarm system wires are to be connected is called ------ RJ31X jack ----------- this is the direct link for the manual click the link directly on page number 3 of manual its listed.after click on the link click download option so the manual will get downloaded.then see page number 3 all instructions with diagram is shown properly. ----------------- if you dont want to down load the manual and want to check all the connections directly ,instantly just click this another link directly and check out all the clear instructions ---------- Note:in some jacks instead of white wire there is yellow yellow wire connection and white wire connection is same. this will help. ------ thanks.please keep updated.please do rate the solution if helped.thank you for using fixya.

I have a GE Simon Security System with a GE Simon 3- X10 Line Carrier Transformer that powers a siren. Since the X10 transformer was installed, I constantly get sensor 'failures.' Although the panel status shows a failure, the alarm will still sound if that sensor is opened, so we think it is a false failure. My home also has an X10 system that controls several outside lights from a master panel. The security company that installed the system has been unable to solve this problem. So far, they have replaced all the sensors that have 'failed' (several times) and also replaced the panel itself. This did not stop the problem. Is the the problem due to some type of interferance in the wiring because there is X10 wiring in the home? Can you help me? Where do we go from here other than to replace the X10 transformer with a regular transformer, which means we will not have a siren in the basement. Thank you!

X10 is a signal format transmitted over the power lines, there is no special X10 wiring in the house as such. The siren and your outside lights are X10 receivers which are sent a signal from the X10 transformer connected to the alarm panel. The alarm panel sends the codes which are transmitted as X10 to the X10 external devices. Most houses now days have at least two 120 volt feeds coming into the main power panel, this provides the 240 volt required for electric stoves and dryers. Because of the two separate feeds split at the panel, the 60 cycles is usually out of phase with each other. To get X10 to work and stay in phase on each side of the panel you need to have wired a passive coupler across both 120 volt inputs. This coupler keeps both 120 inputs in phase with each other and provides a clear X10 transmit across the house wiring.

I had a power failure, wiyh power off about 6 hours. Since power ws restored, I hav a low battery alarm for about 3 days. The system is about 11 years old. It currently has a hard-wired rechargeable battery + a connection for a 9-volt battery. can I cut the wires to the current battery and replace it with a lithium 9-volt battery?

> Since power ws restored, I hav a low battery alarm for about 3 days. The charge circuit probably only supplies a tiny charge current to prevent overcharging of the main battery and I suspect the original is a NiCad and has likely lost a cell or two (shorted; it's common with them) over that fairly long period. Replacing it with either Lithium Ion or NiMh rechargeables with a honest voltage rating (*some aren't) is a good move; neither of these are as prone to failure as NiCad is. Don't be surprised if you still have a 'low battery' alert for several days since these batteries rarely have a full charge when shipped. *So-called '9V' block batteries are, except for rare batteries, actually 8.4 or even only 7.2 volts. I have some instruments that indicate 'Low battery' with either of these even when fully charged.

Hi, I'm very new to home security alarms. Basically it was part of our home purchase. I am aware of basics of setting and resetting alarm and it was fine upto now. But since yesterday for some reason the alarm makes beep sound when one of the sensor in our leaving room detects moving object. The alarm is not set but still this happens. While other sensors in kitchen seems to be fine. Does anyone know if I can do some DIY to solve this problem.

Try turning off the "Chime" function. If that doesn't work bypass the zone the device that is causing you trouble is in. It is hard to help much without the model number.

I have wired screens for my burglar alarm, 7 of 8 do not work, how can I repair the contact?

If the screen itself is bad you need to go to a security screen company and have them repaired. Alarm screens have a wire lacing in the mesh. It is broken when the screen is torn. There is also usually a reed switch in the fram that will trigger the alarm system when the screen is taken out of the frame of the window. Make sue there is a magnet on the frame.
