DTIM with digial phone service

I am trying to install a DTIM module with my Simon 3 system. I have digital phone service (Comcast) and can't get it to work. When I plug the phone cord into the jack (on cable company main box), the phone 1 and phone 2 lights start to flash in unison (signaling in use), and then the phone signal dies. Once I unplug the DTIM everything resets within about 1 min. I have tried changing the sensor number (I was told it had to be #1), but no luck so far. Anyone have any suggestions?

DTIM with digial phone service

I install these types of alarms. First, What is usuallly plugged into the cables main box? Usually it is a jack. This would run to the main phone lines in the house, and allow you to have service at alll the jacks in the house. If this was not the case, then you usually just plug your phone in directly. Either way, the tel #1/2 on the main box is the same principal as the two main lines comming in off the street with the phone company. If there is a jack, get another and a peice of 2/4 strand wire. (If you have a 8 pin bell jack let me know if not follow.) connect the red and green at the main jack to the red and green of the new jack. Plug in the DTIM and go. If it is just a plug in the phone directly then i suggest getting three jacks. plug a regular phone cable from tel 1/2 into the first jack. Then connect the red and green to the next red and green. this is the DTIM jack. Then do the same to connect a phone jack for your phone. I have installed lots of simon 3 systems but never with a DTIM> I also install alot of GE Allegro panels and they come with the DTIMs. Are you having it learn in properly? It should be group 39 on the system. At least it is on the other panels. Good luck.

Using DTIM with digital phone service

It turns out that because Comcast uses VoIP, the Simon can't use it to call in reports. I ended up having to switch monitoring companies to one that specifically uses internet monitoring. The solution was to buy/install a wireless g bridge into the phone output on the alarm panel, and then connect it (wirelessly) to my home network. No major problems since then.

Phone problem I have a Simon 3, and it is connected to my only phone line, with nothing else in front of the telephone line. My phone service is through verizon FIOS. For some reason, I can not call my system and do remote access, it never picks up, I also can not get it to contact my cell phone if an alarm occurs, Any ideas what is going on here? It's basically a useless.

Remote Access is an option that you would have had to enter in the programming. Generally it is left out because it isn't a very good option. Who monitors your system? Is Verizon FIOS digital phone service, DSL, or what?

Okay!!!!! Got it working properly. What I wound up doing is setting it back to factory defaults by unplugging it and disconnecting the battery at the same time as holding down the cancel, clock set, and minutes +, buttons simultaneously. Likewise, when connecting the battery leads you have to hold down the same three buttons. Then you have to teach the Simon 3 the sensors (page 7 of the installation book). Simple ONCE you figure it out and then it makes sense. My thinking is that Mr. Lightening may have struck nearby my apartment and fouled up the system. Thanks JohnCHS for your input. I put my telephone number on my cell phone as both the primary and the secondary number to call.( option 4 and option 5) Hope this helps someone if they have a similar problem.

I have a ge simon 3. I would like to do my own monitoring by cell phone or broadband. Can I do this without using a monitoring service?

No, I'm sorry your system is made to connect with a specialized computer at a monitoring service. This computer is designed to recognize a format (language) and data transmission from your system. An ordinary pc computer does not have this capacity. However, there are several companies that make a communication device that can be programmed with 3 to 4 telephone numbers that will call and leave a voice message on your cell or other phone numbers. A knowledge of how to hook these units up to your system is recommended. One company is United Security Products (USP), models AD2001 and AD2000. The other is Visonic, model DL125C. Expect to pay about $100 to $150 for any of these units.
