My new Firex 21007581 with a new battery keeps chirping.
What is the problem and how do I fix it?
I had this issue and found the root cause which was not provIded by Firex. If you have replaced with new batteries and hooked it back up to a wired circuit and it is chirping, your issue may vey well be the connection of the battery to the metal strips it touches when you insert it into the alarm. I have 6 alarms and after replacing batteries in all of them, this issue occurred with 3 of them! Fix: Unplug all alarms from wiring. Take batteries out and hold down test button to drain any remaining power from unit. Do one alarm at a time. Insert the battery in the first alarm when it's unplugged and close the door. Hold down alarm test button and the alarm should sound. If it does not, you battery connection is bad. Now, I have fixed this issue by holding the alarm on the side in one hand and smacking the side of it lightly. You goal is to make the battery touch the strips and get an alarm sounding when you hold the test button, you will also see the red light flash when the alarm sounds. No alarm sound or red light when battery power only = no fix. Once you have successfully tested each alarm with battery power, you are ready to hook them back up to the circuit. Check for chirping after hooking each unit, waiting 3 or 4 minutes. After hooking up all units, you should not hear any chirping, your issue is resolved. Hold down test button on any of the alarms to ensure all alarms sound.Hope this post was helpful for people who couldn't get a resolution from Firex or any other posts online.Kevin Read More At : 21007581 120v Firex 4618 Pro Basic Smoke Detector...
